Cape Town - A hiker, who suffered from dehydration on Table Mountain, was rescued by an Air Mercy Service (AMS) helicopter on Monday evening.

The woman, in her sixties was badly injured and was treated at the scene for her injuries.

The details surrounding the incident remain sketchy. It appears the woman had gone hiking along India Venster, described as one of the most beautiful and exciting hiking routes up Table Mountain, hours earlier.

Her cellphone was on voicemail at the time of her disappearance. According to the medic who found the woman, she was unable to move and this initiated the helicopter.

“The patient was extracted by the helicopter and flown to a temporary landing zone on Tafelberg Road, where the buses turn around,” Wilderness Search and Rescue’s Johann Marais said.
