Cape Town - One person is believed to have died after a helicopter crash-landed near Strand, just outside Cape Town.

The aircraft came down on the school grounds of Nomzamo High School. The pilot is believed to have died.

"A man was killed this afternoon when a helicopter crashed into a field of a school in Lwandle near Strand in the Western Cape," ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said.

"ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene at approximately 12h00, finding Metro services already in attendance. Paramedics assessed the lone occupant and found that one man had sustained numerous injuries and showed no signs of life.

"Unfortunately, nothing more could be done and the man was declared dead by Metro Services.

"It is alleged that the helicopter had apparently crashed into the nearby powerlines.

"The exact details surrounding this incident are not yet known but local authorities were on the scene for further investigations," Meiring said.
