Former Bafana Bafana star midfielder August Makalakalane has made a dramatic comeback to professional soccer after almost two seasons in limbo.

Makalakalane has joined Premier League side Black Leopards of Limpopo as a caretaker coach.

The former Jomo Cosmos, Wits University and Sundowns player was expected to start his new job on Monday, according to Leopards boss David Thidiela.

Makalakalane replaced Arnaldo Salvado, the former Mozambican assistant coach, who parted ways with Leopards at the weekend after a string of poor results.

Thidiela said he has also roped in Antonio de Vivo to assist Makalakalane, the much-travelled former South African international who also spent a season in Switzerland.

"I'm not going to be in a hurry to employ a permanent head coach. I will give August and Antonio a chance to prove themselves," said Thidiela.

Salvado could not be reached for comment but is reported to be taking legal action against Leopards for unfair dismissal. - Sapa
