London - Manchester United will wait and see if Fabien Barthez or Raimond van der Gouw can recover from injury before registering former Scotland goalkeeper Andy Goram for the Champions League.

United signed Goram as cover for the rest of the season in a shock loan move from Motherwell.

However, the English Premiership leaders will give their two first-choice keepers every chance of recovering in time to face Bayern Munich in the Champions League on April 3 before turning to Goram.

Manager Alex Ferguson is still hopeful that French star Barthez will be able to recover from his thigh problem to play in the quarterfinal first leg at Old Trafford.

Van der Gouw's chances are not as good, as the Dutchman is still recuperating following a knee operation.

United are in no rush to register Goram, who will be 37 next month, because Uefa have already indicated that they would be willing to let the former Scottish international play in the Champions League.

United's director of communications Paddy Harverson said on Friday: "We will wait and see how Fabien and Raimond progress before registering Andy.

"But we know it should not be a problem if we have to register him." - Sapa-AFP
