Lisbon - English Premiership champions Manchester United are set to sign outstanding 18-year-old striker Cristiano Ronaldo from Sporting Lisbon on a five-year contract, Portuguese state television RTP reported on Monday.

The station said Manchester agreed to pay €12-million (almost R100-million) for the Under-21 international, who will be officially presented at Old Trafford on Tuesday.

Ronaldo was inspirational in last Wednesday's 3-1 friendly win over Manchester United - creating two of the goals - at the inauguration of the Portuguese team's new stadium.

He was left out of the Sporting team that played out a 0-0 draw with United's Premiership rivals Spurs in London on Sunday as according to reports him and his agent conducted talks with the Red Devils management.

Manchester and Sporting signed a co-operation agreement in May.

Ronaldo would be United's second signing of the day after Brazilian World Cup winning midfielder Kleberson was granted a work permit and looks set to complete his £6-million transfer, also on Tuesday. - Sapa-AFP
