Sport and Recreation Minister Fikile Mbalula says sport in the Western Cape is being run by people who know nothing about it.

Mbalula was speaking to sports veterans at a meeting at the Cape Town International Convention Centre last night arranged by the ANC.

“I have a big criticism for all of you. You have abandoned sport to people who know nothing about sport and who are not even passionate about sport. You have left it to them to run it here in the Western Cape. All aspects of development have been abandoned,” Mbalula said.

“One of the fundamental aspects we need to question is … transformation. It’s time transformation became compulsory. We need to fight for the future of our children. Sport has been neglected in the country for more than 10 years.”

Mbalula asked why “certain players” were selected for the Springbok team, but became “flower pots”. - Cape Times
