Cape Town - The South African Rugby Legends Association (SARLA) and Jive are both proud and excited to announce their collaboration, resulting in the biggest and most prestigious grassroots rugby programme on the Cape Flats to be known moving forward as the Jive Legends Cup.
The sponsorship is based on the shared vision of both SARLA and the Jive brand and their mutually-shared commitment to invest in youth, living in and around the Cape Flats, through sport, with a specific focus on rugby. The Jive Legends Cup will focus on two key areas; the provision of opportunities for players to showcase their talents on the rugby field and secondly, for the identification of future potential rugby talent. The latter will then be provided with an opportunity to play in the WP Iqhawe Team, who will participate in the Carfind.co.za Iqhawe Week, which is taking place in Johannesburg later this year.
Mr Niyaaz Hendricks, Events Manager of Jive, Jessie Claassen, VUKA Rugby Manager and the former Springbok, Dale Santon, welcomed the new Jive sponsorship relationship, acknowledging that it will enable the youth to maximise their talent and potential, both on and off the rugby field.
Stefan Terblanche, CEO of SARLA, when asked about the sponsorship agreement, responded with great excitement and emphasised its importance, saying:
“This sponsorship is an investment in our youth, it will both develop and uplift players from small, previously disadvantaged and non-traditional rugby playing schools in the Western Province.
“The reality is that encouraging our youth to commit to a programme such as ours has proven consistently to change lives and teach valuable life skills and lessons that are vital both on and off the field.”
The Jive Legends Cup will take place, with the support of the WP Rugby Union, from the 19th of June 2018 from 12h00 at City Park in Athlone.
The game days will be as follow: 21 June from 12h00, 25th, 27th and 28th June from 10h00 and the finals on the 30th of June also from 10h00.
