SA schools draw in Loftus curtain-raiser

The South African Schools rugby team played to a 23-23 draw against the French under-18 team at Loftus on Saturday.

South Africa, who led 9-8 at the break, won the series 1-0 after defeating the French 36-15 in Cape Town last week.

The match was a scrappy affair with the French pulling level at the death via a penalty by flyhalf Nicolas Rondet.

South African captain and flank Luke Watson played well, scoring his side's first try while flyhalf Derick Hougaardt kicked five out five, slotting three penalties and two conversions.

For the visitors centre Pierre garcia scored a second-half brace.

In an earlier game played at Loftus the Ussasa Academy team defeated the Australian Aboriginal team 67-0. - Sapa
