Cape Town – A group of aspiring actors and artists from Hanover Park, Mitchells Plain and Delft will be featured at the Artscape Theatre next month.

The Hanover Park First Community Resource Centre Arts and Culture programme will be presenting their fund-raiser production, Not just another Cinderella Story.

Centre director Craven Engel said the programme formed part of a Nead programme established in Hanover Park in 2002.

“This one is very special because it will be our biggest staging. We have about 50 people participating, ranging form six years old to 50 years old; we have about 15 people working backstage and with lighting.”

The showcase aims to raise funds for programmes at the First Community Resource Centre.

“We were very excited when Artscape came on board. The youth are excited and have been working tirelessly,” he said.

A synopsis describes it as “a story about a young woman seeking true love so that she can be made whole”. “She gives her heart away hoping this will be the moment she had longed for, instead her heart gets broken.

"She goes to the woods seeking help and a way to fix this, but encounters that everyone seems to be hopeless.

“Even though the fairy tale characters are being displayed, the realities of the social ills on the Cape Flats are what these characters are faced with.”

The showcase is scheduled for February 23 and doors open at 4pm. Tickets are R100 at Computicket and Shoprite.
