It's all systems go for the annual Shack Summer Estival in Ottery,  which will showcase local talent, including the talented 15-year-old Andrea Fortuin from Somerset West.

She was discovered on Facebook by Junior Fritz, Pizza Shack co-owner with his wife Lynn.

The Shack Summer Estival has a history of delivering quality entertainment in a classy and glamorous setting to a very discerning audience, according to event director, Trevor Davids.

It was started more than three years ago.

“The best of South African and international artists showcased their talent over the three festivals to date.

"Shack Summer Estival 2017 is going to set the bar higher to a quality audience in a compact setting with beach sand, white furniture, covered by a Bedouin tent - in a summer ambiance of music, wine, food and fun,” he said.

The Shack Summer Estival will incorporate a DJ Festival on the Saturday as a curtain raiser to the main event on the following day.

Fortuin will perform for 400 people at the event.

Other artists include Richard Caesar, Sammy Webber, Brother To Brother, Vuvu Khumalo, Cole Adams, Sandra Butler and The Butler Connection.

Fritz said he saw a video of Fortuin on Facebook and approached her parents for her to perform.

“She is a young and undiscovered talent that many people should hear. After I approached her on a Friday on Facebook she managed to bring her family through to the Pizza Shack on Sunday.

"When I gave her the microphone to perform with a live band, she blew away the crowd,” said Fritz.

He said the event boasts a wine and food tasting for the audience, supported by live performances from 2pm till 11pm.

Andrea's father, Andre Fortuin said his daughter was excited to hear the news. She had been singing since Sunday school and has been recognised at numerous school events.

“I am also excited and proud of her. It's quite fortunate . She has recently been booked at the event . This is going to be her first live performance in front of a bigger crowd,” said Fortuin.

On Sunday, there will be a street food festival, wine festival and live music festival.

Tickets are available for R300 at the Pizza Shack, 10 Enslin Road in Ottery, contact [email protected] or 021 703 1351.
