Alleged gang kingpin Jerome “Donkie” Booysen has been moved to another medical facility after a suspected attack on him at Bellville Melomed Hospital last week.

A suspect was arrested after an incident, described as an “another attempt on Booysen’s life”, at the hospital on Thursday.

This was the fourth attempt on Booysen’s life in just a year.

In May, Booysen was shot in the neck in Ravensmead, while in September his car was targeted in Sacks Circle, Bellville Industria. Booysen was not in the car at the time.

In the most recent attempt, at Cape Town International Airport, Booysen was shot four times just after 5am on Wednesday.

Social media went viral yesterday after a picture of the alleged suspect linked to the attempt on Booysen’s life at hospital was leaked.

The picture revealed a male with a face beaten to a pulp, filled with cuts, bruises and so much blood his face was unrecognisable.

His eyes were apparently so swollen they could not open.

Booysen was admitted to the Belville Melomed Clinic. He underwent surgery to have four bullets removed and is now recovering in another hospital.

According to reports, security at the medical facility was beefed up to ensure Booysen’s safety.

Police spokesperson Noloyiso Rwexana said the suspect who was arrested last Thursday would appear in court today.

“Circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation. A 39-year-old man was arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle,” she said.

The suspect will appear in the Bellville Magistrate’s Court.

Figures linked to the underworld nightclub security industry expect major retaliation attacks in Cape Town in the coming weeks.
