Cape Town – A taxi driver in the city who had 62 outstanding warrants, totalling R81 850, was arrested while trying to overtake on the shoulder of the N2 near Jan Smuts Drive yesterday.

It was after a traffic officer ran a check and discovered the 33-year-old driver’s alleged transgressions.

“A few weeks ago, we warned motorists to make sure their affairs are in order to avoid nasty surprises when they get stopped at a roadblock or for another transgression, as was the case here.

“I hope that this incident will serve as a warning to others that warrant dodging has an expiry date,” said safety and security Mayco member JP Smith.

This week the City is hosting a traffic fine roadshow at the Civic Centre in the CBD where motorists can settle fines and warrants.
