THREE suspects are due to appear in the Mossel Bay Magistrate’s Court on Monday in connection with the murder of a 76-year-old man.

The man was reported missing by friends on Friday evening before the suspects were found sitting in his vehicle, said police spokesperson Chris Spies.

“Members on patrol spotted the vehicle of the missing person at Louis Fourie Road near the entrance to Hartenbos at about 3am on Saturday, said Spies.

“They brought the Toyota Yaris with three occupants to a halt. Upon enquiring, the trio were unable to account for their possession of the man’s vehicle.

“The three suspects, aged between 27 and 35, were subsequently arrested on a charge of possession of suspected stolen property," said Spies.

Further investigation into the disappearance of the man took police to his flat at Kaap De Goeie Hoop Avenue, in Hartenbos, later the same day.

"Upon arrival the police found the body of the man with head injuries. He was declared dead by paramedics on scene.

“A case of murder was opened for further police investigation. The motive for the killing is yet to be determined,” said Spies.

The three suspects face murder charges and of possession of stolen property.

Da Gamaskop Cluster police management commended the officers for their vigilance in bringing the perpetrators to book.
