Cape Town - Western Cape ANC MP, Faiez Jacobs’ nomination to serve on the National Executive Committee (NEC) has been confirmed ahead of the much-anticipated elective conference at Nasrec, Johannesburg, at the weekend.

The NEC is the highest organ of the ANC, and has the authority to lead the organisation.

It consists of the president, deputy president, national chairperson, secretary general, deputy secretary general and treasurer general plus eighty additional members.

For the top six positions, the following nominations have been announced: Cyril Ramaphosa against Zweli Mkhize for president, Paul Mashatile, Ronald Lamola and Oscar Mabuyane for deputy president; Mdumiseni Ntuli, Phumulo Masualle and Fikile Mbalula for secretary general.

For national chairperson, Stanley Mathabatha, Gwede Mantashe and David Masondo are up for the position; the deputy secretary general post will be contested by Nomvula Mokonyane and Febe Potgieter; while Benjamin Chauke, Pule Mabe and Mzwandile Masina are vying for the treasurer general position.

On his nomination, Jacobs said: “I have subsequently been notified that I have made the ballot for the NEC for the ANC's 55th National Conference. I am deeply grateful to each member and branch of the ANC in my province and across the country for supporting me to reach this point. I am humbled that you have shown trust in me to lead in the renewal of an activist and servant ANC. The journey we have travelled is however not over. I urge delegates to provide me with an opportunity to serve.”

Spokesperson for the ANC in the province, Sifiso Mtsweni said: “We can only wish all comrades coming from the province the best.”

As the process was still ongoing, he said other nominations included: Lerumo Kalako; Ronalda Nalumango; Mcebisi Skwatsha; Ibrahim Rasool; Richard Dyantyi; Zizi Kodwa; Thandi Mahambehlala and Naledi Pandor.

Meanwhile the ANC caucus met at the City Hall on Tuesday to discuss the parliamentary programme and the party’s approach to matters on the parliamentary agenda.

The ANC Caucus consists of all ANC members of Parliament - in the National Assembly and the National Council of Provinces.
