Johannesburg: The high court sitting in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court on Monday found former radio presenter Donald Sebolai guilty of murdering his girlfriend, Dolly Tshabalala.

The former Jozi FM presenter was also found guilty of attempting to defeat the ends of justice.

However, Judge Cassim Moosa acquitted Sebolai on charges of theft of a motor vehicle.

Judge Moosa revoked Sebolai’s bail, saying the convicted murderer would remain in custody until sentencing next month.

Sebolai appeared composed, but was somewhat shaken when Moosa pronounced his verdict.

Tshabalala’s mother, Elizabeth Maraw, appeared relieved by the judgment, but she declined to comment on the matter.

Judge Moosa found that Sebolai intended for Tshabalala to die because he didn’t take her to a hospital immediately after stabbing her. The DJ stabbed Tshabalala at her Soweto flat in June last year.

Evidence from one of the State witnesses stated that Tshabalala could have survived had he rushed her to the hospital instead of changing her clothes and cleaning up the crime scene.

Judge Moosa said if there was really a struggle like Sebolai said, there would have been signs of a struggle, such as marks on Tshabalala’s body. Furthermore, there were no signs of a struggle in the flat.

Earlier on Monday, the court heard Judge Moosa read evidence from a witness who was the investigating officer, who said Sebolai was interacting with the public when he was arrested and seemed light-hearted.

The witness stated that Sebolai said he hated women and didn’t look remorseful.

After the verdict National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Phindi Louw said Sebolai should get the sentence he deserves.

Sebolai will be sentenced on November 25. – African News Agency
