Four suspects held for drunk driving during illegal street racing in Athlone

Cape Town – The City’s Traffic Service had another busy week, impounding 57 taxis and issued 2 949 fines.

During a taxi enforcement operation held in the airport area last week, officers impounded 20 vehicles and issued 410 fines for various offences.

On Saturday, officers arrested seven suspects for illegal street racing in the Athlone/Manenberg areas – four for driving under the influence of alcohol and three for reckless and negligent driving. 

Officers also issued 27 fines for various offences. 

Yesterday, officers conducted a traffic enforcement operation in the Sea Point and Clifton area. Two suspects were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and one for reckless driving.

A total of 182 fines were issued for various other offences.

Elsewhere, officers impounded vehicles, arrested suspects and issued fines for various transgressions.
