POLICE have appealed to the public for information after a 23-year-old man was shot and killed in his car in a suspected gang-related shooting in Lansdowne on Wednesday night.

A woman and baby were also injured in the drive-by shooting, said police spokesperson Colonel Andrè Traut.

"Last night at around 21:30, an unknown suspect opened fire at the occupants of a white VW Polo on the corners of Jan Smuts Drive and Turfhall Road in Lansdowne. The driver of the vehicle was shot and killed, while his two passengers, a 25-year-old female and an one-year-old baby were injured.

“The injured victims were admitted to a local medical facility. The suspect fled with other suspects in a red Opel Corsa and they are yet to be arrested," said Traut.

Police said they have "reason to believe that the incident is gang related".

Cases of murder and attempted murder are currently under investigation.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident, Traut said SAPS assisted by other law enforcement agencies were deployed in the Grassy Park area on Wednesday night for a joint operation.

One suspect was arrested in connection with a murder.

"The AGU detectives were also in search for those responsible for the murder of a 33-year-old man who was shot and killed in Strandfontein Road on 1April 19. Investigation led the operation to a residence where four suspects were arrested and brought in for questioning.

“Interrogation of the suspects resulted in the detention of a 38-year-old male for the murder. The other three were released as they could not be positively linked to the crime. The suspect is due to make his court appearance in Wynberg once he has been charged,” he added.
