The Langa Tourism Forum is calling on all township tourism businesses and those with ideas to come to their Awareness Day and help grow the local economy.

Whether it’s information pertaining to Cape Town Tourism or the SA Revenue Service (Sars) registration, loan applications for new ideas or online marketing, you will find it all at the event taking place today at Guga S’Thebe hall.

Songi Masoka from the forum said: “Tourism Awareness Day is all about tourism in the township. A lot of people are coming in and out of Langa to experience life in the township.

“We have home stays and BnBs. Most businesses are not compliant with Sars or the City of Cape Town. They do not know what grading is. Some people have an idea but don’t know where to start.

"This is an opportunity for people to find ways to improve their business and become compliant. This is a platform filled with information and tools to empower everyone interested in tourism.”.

The forum was started two months ago as a body that would support the growing tourism industry in Langa.

Masonka added that apart from “being the oldest township in Cape Town and legends like Brenda Fassie being born there”, Langa has a lot to offer.

It also boasts a Dompas Museum, where tourists can see what a dompas and apartheid era court looked like.
