CAPE TOWN - An independent candidate of Bellville South says he will be lodging a criminal complaint against some leaders of the Cape Coloured Congress for allegedly using his intellectual property for their electoral campaign.

Godfrey Luyt alleged that the leaders of the Cape Coloured Congress in the Bellville South branch had stolen his intellectual property and copyrighted it to their political party’s advantage.

“I have things that I shared on a Facebook Group, the group’s name is ‘Transforming Bellville South’, I posted my poster on the group and on Facebook. Members of the Cape Coloured Congress Bellville South branch are there. So after I posted my poster and my information I noticed that a few days later they posted posters with the exact same wording and also similar posters in the same group. So that is a criminal offence,” he said.

Luyt said he contacted the branch leader, the two leaders involved as well as the party president, Fadiel Adams. However Adams refused to investigate.

But Adams said he had “no clue” what Luyt was talking about when he spoke of intellectual property.

“Godfrey has never given me any official communication of anything intellectual. If this is his claim then he’s more than welcome to go and lay charges because it’s a criminal offence, if indeed it is true.

“But Mr Luyt must understand that if this is spurious as I believe it is, then there will be legal consequences,” said Adams.
