Cape Town – A suspect who allegedly used his pit bull dog to attack, kill and maim other animals as well as rob people in Kensington is on the run.

The City's Law Enforcement Animal Unit had received numerous complaints about dog fights taking place in the area, but officers and the SPCA found it difficult to apprehend the suspect behind these attacks, the City said.

On Thursday, the animal unit received a complaint of dog fighting taking place at cookie squatter camp in 6th Avenue in Kensington and went to investigate.

"When the officers arrived on scene, it was explained to them the owner of the dog had fled and the father of the owner of the dog who had been attacked managed to tie the dog to a pole.

"The dog that was attacked was lying in its kennel severely injured. The dogs were both impounded and taken to the SPCA for treatment. The suspect is still on the run," the City said.
