Cape Town - NON-PROFIT organisation Ladles of Love postponed its attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the longest line of food cans in the world scheduled to take place yesterday (Sunday), citing lockdown restrictions.

The charity organisation was aiming to build the world's longest line of food cans this year in honour of Mandela Day, in the hope of breaking the Canadian-held record of 3.28km for 44 966 cans.

The record-breaking attempt was scheduled to take place outdoors at the V&A Waterfront.

The initiative has been postponed till next month.

Last year, they broke a world record for the biggest number of sandwiches made in one hour.

Ladles of Love founder Danny Diliberto said the initiative will not only raise food donations but also raise awareness about hunger and poverty in the country.

“Due to lockdown (level) 4 we have had to postpone the record-breaking attempt. We are still asking people to go online to buy cans or register to volunteer or walk the line on the day we decide to attempt the record. “We are at about 40 000 cans so far, so very close to the record which is 45 000 cans,” he said.
