CAPE TOWN - A suspect has been arrested in connection with the murder of six people in the Enkanini informal settlement in Khayelitsha last weekend.
The 35-year-old suspect has been charged with murder and is expected to appear in the Khayelitsha Magistrate’s Court on Monday, March 28.
SAPS Western Cape spokesperson Brigadier Novela Potelwa said as part of ongoing investigations into the recent multiple murders in Khayelitsha, organised crime detectives had arrested a suspect.
Two women and four men between the ages of 18 and 27 were shot dead allegedly by three gunmen at 4.10pm in Lindela Road on Sunday. And more arrests are expected, Potelwa said.
The shooting happened after 10 people were killed in Manenberg and after four men and a woman were gunned down in Endlovini informal settlement in Khayelitsha.
The Khayelitsha Community Policing Forum cluster chairperson Fransina Lukas urged the police to accelerate their investigations.
Acting Community Safety MEC Anroux Marais said she was devastated by the killings, and welcomed Police Minister Bheki Cele’s commitment to increase police support to bring calm, increase safety in the area and ensure the suspects were brought to book.
“The Western Cape government aims to halve the murder rate by 2029 through its provincial safety plan,” Marais said.
