Mitchells Plain rocked by deadly shooting, killing three in suspected gang-related violence

Cape Town - Three people have been shot and killed in Westridge, Mitchells Plain, in a suspected gang-related murder.

SAPS Western Cape spokesperson Brigadier Novela Potelwa said a man entered a house on Jersey Street around 9.30pm on Sunday and asked for the owner by name.

The suspect then shot the owner and two other men inside the house.

The suspect has yet to be arrested.

“Mitchells Plain detectives have opened a murder docket for investigation after three men were shot and killed in Westridge, Mitchells Plain, on Sunday evening.

“Reports indicate that a gunman arrived at an address in Jersey Street, Westridge, at 9.30pm and asked for the owner by name.

“The armed man proceeded to shoot the owner and two other men inside the home.

“All three died on the scene.

“The suspect fled and is yet to be arrested. Investigations into the shooting incident that is believed to be gang-related continue,” Potelwa said.

In an unrelated matter on Friday, Delft SAPS members arrested a 23-year-old for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition on Delft Main Road.

Delft SAPS members performing patrols in the area noticed the suspect acting suspiciously when they spotted him.

They then conducted a stop-and-search operation, and the suspect was found in possession of a .38 Special revolver with five rounds.
