Police are investigating the fatal shooting of a young Lavender Hill man on Sunday.

SAPS spokesperson Frederick van Wyk said Steenberg police had received a complaint of a shooting in progress at 8.16pm in St Bernard Street, St Montague Village, Lavender Hill.

On investigating they went into a yard and saw a young man, dressed in grey pants and maroon top, lying on his stomach, said Van Wyk.

An ambulance was contacted and the victim declared dead.

“According to reports, it is alleged that the 20-year-old deceased was standing in front of the house when a gold VW Golf 4 stopped in the road.

“One of the occupants got out of the car and fired several shots at the deceased and his friend, who ran into the yard.

“The deceased sustained multiple gunshot wounds. The possibility that the motive for this murder can be gang-related will be investigated.

“No one has been arrested. Anyone with information is requested to contact the Steenberg police at 021 702 9000 or Crime Stop at 08600 10 111.”
