Cape Town – Protest action on the N2 inbound at Borcherds Quarry – at the Cape Town International Airport approach road – disrupted traffic early on Wednesday morning.

"Due to protest action the N2 inbound is closed between Borcherds Quarry and the airport approach road," the City of Cape Town Traffic Service's Richard Coleman said at 5.05am.

According to reports, tyres had been set alight by protesters and the metro police and SA Police Service responded to the scene.

At 5.45am, the fires had been extinguished, the debris was removed off the road and it was reopened. High-visibility patrols by law enforcement are still in place.

Traffic SA reported at 6am that there were heavy queues at Khayelitsha.
