The South African Football Association (Safa) still wouldn’t comment on rape claims against its president, Danny Jordaan.

This as the social media campaign #MeToo continued to gain momentum with another woman claiming Jordaan raped her, according to singer and former MP Jennifer Ferguson, who first levelled the rape allegations against him.

Department of Sport and Recreation spokesperson Mickey Modisane also refused to comment on the matter, referring all questions to Safa, but neither Jordaan nor Safa spokesperson Dominic Chimhavi responded yesterday.

UN under-secretary-general and executive director of UN Women Phumzile Mlambo-

Ngcuka has said the #MeToo campaign marked both the urgency of finding a shared voice and the hidden scale of assault that did not previously have a register (see Op-ed).

Ferguson had previously taken to Facebook and her blog, saying she was raped one night 24 years ago in a Port Elizabeth hote * .

“I was probably not the only woman raped by this man. I am deeply sorry that I was unable to report it when it happened and I apologise from my heart to any woman or young girl that may have suffered abuse by this man, as a result of my colluding in the conspiracy of silence.

‘‘I can now begin the process of forgiveness.

“It is not my intention to ‘punish’ the perpetrator, but to bring to light of truth that which has been hidden through years of shame.

‘‘I have been a fearless activist in the political sphere.

“Worked with child abuse for many years. I have been gifted with so much in my life, yet I have been ashamed into silence. I did not have the inner resources to take this into the legal or even public sphere before.

‘‘What of the many women, children, people who do not have any means to deal with rape?”
