A DELFT woman has been raped after being held at gunpoint and robbed while visiting the grave of a family member.

“According to information the victim and the witness were visiting a grave of the family member of the witness, when the suspects approached them.

“The suspects threatened them with a firearm and robbed them of their belongings.

“They then took the victim with them and told the witness not to seek help or they would kill the victim.

“The suspects had sexual intercourse with the victim without her consent and then left,” said police spokesperson FC Van Wyk.

Police have since released the identikits of the three suspects, urging the public to come forward with any information that may lead to their arrest.

The identikits were compiled with the assistance of the victim, said Van Wyk.

Anyone with information about the incident can contact investigating officer CM Meyer of Delft FCS 083 497 9928 or anonymously Crime Stop on 08600 10111, alternatively SMS Crime Line on 32211.

Meanwhile Police Minister Bheki Cele has apologised in Parliament for the backlog in DNA results, which stood at almost 200 000.

This would affect DNA samples linked to thousands of murders and rapes across the country.

He said measures put in place included, procuring and allocating more money for consumables, developing a track-and-trace system of specimens, hiring more personnel and making provision for overtime work.
