Seven business premises affected by Killarney Gardens fire

CAPE TOWN - Seven business premises at Killarney Gardens were affected by a fire that erupted on Wednesday night.

The City of Cape Town's Fire and Rescue Services responded to two fires in Monza Street at just before 7pm on Wednesday night deploying three fire engines with 15 Firefighters still on the scene carrying out mopping up operations.

The City’s fire chief Theo Layne said:  “No gas explosions occurred - loud "bang" was Various containers inside the buildings which usually happens at Building, Factory Fires. 

At on stage there was a butane leak which was quickly isolated by Afrox Technicians.The fire was not under control as yet but was confined to the two affected buildings”

He said one from Michdar, three from Petcare and three Ekamant SA.were damaged and the cause of the fire had not been established.

The water pressure was low in the Killarney area and firefighters had to use water tankers to supplement the water pressure for Firefighting purposes said Layne.

Reports of one person sustaining moderate injuries and was  treated by emergency medical staff and transported to hospital.

Layne said firefighters would remain on the scene throughout the day to ensure that no flare-ups occur.
