Cape Town – Family members of slain police officer Sibusiso Gqadushe are yet to give him a dignified send-off after their plans to travel as a family to the Eastern Cape were dealt a blow.

Gqadushe, 36, of Makhaza, was off-duty on March 21 when two suspects entered his house and killed him.

Police spokesperson FC van Wyk said detectives were still following up on leads.

Gqadushe’s widow, Phumela,

said the family had planned to bury him in his hometown this weekend.

“The first time we heard about the regulations relating to funerals we were a bit concerned. Then we thought since we are the immediate family we won’t have a problem, and went ahead with the funeral arrangements for Saturday.

“Early last week, officials came to tell us that about seven people will be allowed to travel,” she said.

Gqadushe was the breadwinner for his five children. “This has been very frustrating for us and we need urgent assistance, ” Phumela said.

Funeral movements are among the 21-day lockdown regulations that Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta) Minister Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma amended on Thursday.

Meanwhile Hawks spokesperson, Captain Philani Nkwalase, said

they were still investigating the killing of two other police officers, Constable Thobinceba Xhontelo, and Special Task Force member Mlungisi Kidwell Ranaka.

Ranaka was killed on February 14, and Xhontelo on March 12.
