Somerset West man arrested for dagga worth R60 000

A 24-year-old man from Somerset West was arrested for the possession of dagga worth R60 000.

Provincial police spokesperson Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana said last night, Somerset West police acted on information they received about illegal activities at a residence in their policing area. 

“They visited the address and conducted a search which discovered dagga trees, two bags of loose dagga and dagga cultivating equipment with an estimated street value of R60  000,” she said. 

The suspect, a 24 year old male was arrested and is facing a charge of dealing in drugs. 

He is expected to make a court appearance in the Somerset West Magistrate’s court once he has been charged.

Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant-General Khombinkosi Jula, commended police members for addressing one of the province’s crime generators and encouraged them to continue with their efforts.

Over the weekend police arrested a total of 212 suspects in the Nyanga Cluster. 

Police searched 249 houses for illegal firearms and drugs.  A total of 423g of Heroin, 924g of  Tik, 18 996 Mandrax tablets and 3696g of dagga were taken off the streets.

A total of 116 shebeen operations were conducted throughout the Cluster and 18 arrests were made for alcohol related charges. During the 14 tracing operations conducted 36 wanted suspects were arrested on outstanding cases.
