CAPE TOWN - A South African family who emigrated to New Zealand a few weeks ago are mourning the loss of their three children who were found dead in their new home in that country.

According to New Zealand publication Stuff, the bodies of the children – twin girls, Maya and Karla Dickason, 3, and their older sister Liane, 7 were found by their father when he returned home on Thursday.

Their parents, Graham and Lauren Dickason, worked at Pretoria East Hospital before coming to New Zealand, according to their social media profiles.

The family had recently arrived in New Zealand and had been staying in Timaru.

Emergency services arrived at the family home just after 10pm, but the girls could not be saved.

Detectives have since opened a murder inquiry. The suspected killer – a woman – was taken to the nearby Timaru Hospital, where she was in a stable condition, the publication reported.

The cause of death has not yet been determined.

The Department of International Relations and Co-operation (Dirco) said they have been made aware of the incident.

This is a developing story.
