Cape Town – Overnight vandalism between the Bontheuwel and Nyanga train stations impacted train services between Chris Hani and Kapteinsklip on the Central line on Friday morning.

Due to trains between Cape Town and Kapteinsklip as well as Chris Hani being temporarily suspended, commuters have been advised to make use of own alternative transport.

Western Metrorail spokesperson Riana Scott said: "We regret that two of our two Central line services have had to be suspended due to extensive overnight damage to essential infrastructure.

"There is no train service between Cape Town and Chris Hani and Cape Town and Kapteinsklip. We advise our customeers to find alternative train transport as we regrettably unable to provide alternative transport.

"The Bishop Lavis line is not affected and all other services – North, Flats and South – are operating on schedule subject to infrastructural conditions necessitating speed restrictions and/or manual authorisation in certain sections.

"Service updates will continue to be posted on our social media sites."
