Cape Town - Two newborn babies have been found dead within two days, with the latest body discovered in a field in Browns Farm, Philippi on Wednesday.
The day before, a baby was found at a Langa dumping site.
Police spokesperson Frederick van Wyk said no arrests have been made in the latest incident.
“An inquest case was opened at Nyanga SAPS after a foetus was discovered (Wednesday) morning by a passer-by, who immediately informed the police in Nkelekethe Road in Browns Farm,” said Van Wyk.
Police are also investigating a case of concealment of birth in the Langa case.
“Police responded to a complaint today, Tuesday at about 11.20am in Moffati Street. Upon arrival at the scene they found the body of a new born baby girl on a dumping site.
’’The victim was declared deceased on the scene by the medical personnel. The whereabouts of the mother is unknown,” said Swartbooi.
Philippi Community leader Nokuthula Ngqele said they were in the process of establishing a new support organisation for issues affecting women and children in the community.
“Every baby deserves nothing but life. If it happens that a young girl is being impregnated… in seeking advice you get a solution.
“It is very shocking that a baby just born, was wrapped in plastic, and discovered by a dog in a dumping area.
’’We just formed a support group which deals with challenges faced by women and children but we have not formally launched the group.
’’It is something that we are looking to launch next year so that we can educate people about issues affecting us,“ said Ngqela.
