Cape Town – The Western Cape Anti-Gang Unit recorded a Covid-19 case this week and police members who were in contact with the infected colleague have undergone the necessary screening and testing and been quarantined.

This was confirmed on Wednesday by Western Cape police spokesperson Brigadier Novela Potelwa, who added that the facility and vehicles used by the infected person have been decontaminated.

Potelwa said the unit remains operational and its service to the communities of the Western Cape has not been affected.

Meanwhile, Manenberg police station relocated its community service centre yesterday to another building on the premises in order to allow for decontamination of the station building, Potelwa said.

"The infected case is in isolation, while those who were in contact with the member are being screened/tested and quarantined," she said.

"The operations of the community service centre at Manenberg police station resumed from the station building on Tuesday evening after the decontamination process was completed and the facility declared safe for occupation by the appointed service provider."

Netwerk24 reported that officers at the station, who expressed concern for their safety, said this was the fourth time since last Wednesday that the station had to be closed.
