CAPE TOWN - The fifth annual Wynberg Family Festival is back with a bang and will serve as an exciting pop-up vaccination site for festival-goers.

This event is the successor to the world-famous Community Chest Carnival, which attracted more than 80 000 people in its heyday and benefited hundreds of local NGO’s and NPO’s.

This year's festival takes place December 16-19 at Maynardville Park, Wynberg.

Festival-goers can expect four days of non-stop family entertainment, including top local artists and entertainers, top local DJ's, the very best local gourmet and street food vendors, top quality food trucks, a beer garden, a fully-fledged amusement park featuring no fewer than ten of the most thrilling rides suitable for the young and young at heart, more than sixty local exhibitors and traders, and plenty to see and do.

A major drawcard at this year’s event will be the Wynberg Festival Talent Search with a cash prize of R5000 up for grabs.

“In an effort to make vaccination even more accessible to our people, we are partnering with the Western Cape Health Department and turn this year’s festival into one of the most exciting pop-up vaccination sites. Those interested in getting vaccinated would be able to do so right there at the event,” festival director Rozario Brown said.

“We urge the public to take up this opportunity. All that is needed is a form of identification – either a driver’s license or identity document for health staff to assist in registering and getting them vaccinated on the spot. Important to note is that even undocumented patrons are welcome and will be assisted. Those who qualify for their second jab would be able to have it at the festival grounds,” Brown added.

All patrons will be screened prior to entering the main gates for Covid-19, and a fully functional medical zone with qualified paramedics and ambulances will be available.

Tickets to the Wynberg Festival are now available at Computicket, Shoprite, Checkers and House & Home stores at only R55 each, including service charges.

Children under the age of 6 enter for free if accompanied by a parent.

Those who bought tickets to attend the event may claim back their R55 if they decide to get vaccinated there. Organisers will require proof that the person got vaccinated at the event.

No tickets will be sold at the gates
