The Grassy Park Community Policing Forum (CPF) has pointed out the danger of selling “toy” guns. This week the Grassy Park police confiscated two imitation firearms in separate incidents from suspects who fled when they saw the police.

Clearly they intended using those fake guns in some kind of criminal activity. They will be appearing in court on charges of possession of imitation firearms.

During the festive season, these “toy” guns will be used to rob people. We urge the community to report suspicious loiterers so that police can take action.

The CPF reiterates our call for the banning of these imitation guns. The police must prevail upon shops to stop selling them.

We don’t want to encourage a gun culture in a community that is subjected to gun violence almost on a daily basis. Children imitating gangsters soon become targets for recruitment by gangs.
