I just wanted to share a similar story to that of the North West school incident about racism in schools and how white parents teach their children to hate black people.
I was living abroad for more than 18 years and my 5-year-old daughter, who is black, used to attend an international school and her classmates were from the UK, US, Germany, South Korea, Japan, Canada and China.
She never experienced any discrimination. Six months ago, we moved to Cape Town.
I enrolled my daughter at a preschool in Strand and within a week my daughter came home and told me that her white classmates had told her that they didn’t like black people and when they grew up, they would buy guns and kill black people.
I was shocked, as these children are just five years old and how on Earth do they know how to hate other races unless their parents teach them?
I reported the incident to the school head, but nothing happened.
As a consequence of this incident, I had to remove my daughter from school as she had never experienced this treatment abroad.
