We are 15 members of the ANCYL Western Cape provincial executive committee. We have decided to speak out about the recent developments in our province.

We have been misrepresented by our colleagues in the PEC particularly the chair, Comrade Khalid Mohammed Sayed, and the secretary, Comrade Andile Mbali.

They have been issuing statements on our behalf that are not a true reflection of the views of the majority of PEC members. They have misled young people of the ANC and members of the ANCYL in the province into believing that the PEC has taken a decision in the ANC succession debate while we have not set or discussed the matter.

There is no way that we would support the continuation of corruption and the looting of our state resources. When the time arises we will make our views known as to whom we think can lead the organisational renewal and rebuilding of the organisation.

For now we’d like to dismiss any public pronouncements made on our behalf, especially that of supporting Cde Nkosazana (Dlamini Zuma). We will also afford ANCYL branches across the province the chance to give us direction on this matter.

However, we were very disappointed by how the preparations of the 73rd anniversary celebrations were handled, especially the exclusion and blatant disregard of the PEC members in the province. We will therefore not be honouring the event as we feel undermined and not taken serious by the ANCYL NEC.

We have also noted the concerns raised by young people in the province about the legitimacy of the PEC. We want to ensure them that their views will find expression in the next PEC meeting – we do not know when it will be convened, as we are deprived of such platforms.

Our last PEC meeting was in May, we have since been communicating on social media networks. Supporting Comrade Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma for president we reject out of hand.

We would also like to convey our heartfelt condolences to the family of the late Comrade Sindiso Magaqa, who gave his youth to the movement and the struggle for economic freedom in our life time. Hamba Kahle Qabane
