#WaterCrisis: Leaders must show they care about us

I refer to the letter by Keith Hurworth in the Cape Times of January 17 on “Day Zero” and totally agree with his thoughts.

I have been thinking over who in this city in high places actually has the people of Cape Town truly and realistically in mind when coming up with this outlandish idea about 200 standpipes.

Only uncaring and unrealistic minds can come up with such an idea. They seem to be the same “brains” that keep reminding us of Day Zero, and in the same breath telling us that things are in hand except for the fact that they are BEHIND schedule.

And there is not even an explanation or apology. But then again, we had a water shortage in the Western Cape for

a decade if not longer!

Who are these non-thinking persons who at the same time claim “This city works for you”?

To me, in 1976, when I arrived here, Cape Town was the most wonderful city, and I could walk everywhere on my own without fear. Now in 2018 I ask myself what I am doing here. Not only am I afraid to enjoy forest walks, I’m also afraid to go on beach walks; basically any walk anywhere on my own.

Perhaps it will soon be time for me to go back to where it is a bit safer and the people in high places a lot more intelligent and looking ahead, thus caring for the people they govern.

It’s time to care!
