Durban - Police in Umkomaas, south of Durban have recovered guns, ammunition, a police jacket, an army jacket, a pair of gloves and two 9mm magazines.
Captain Nqobile Gwala, police spokesperson said on Sunday evening, a 55-year-old man was walking home in Umkomaas when he was approached by an unknown man who hit the man with a bottle on his head and took his 9mm. A case of robbery being investigated by Umkomaas police.
“On Monday night, police officers from Umkomaas SAPS together with the Umzinto K9 Unit followed up information with regards to the suspect involved in the robbery where a man was robbed of his firearm. Police went to the suspect’s house where a search was conducted. A suspect was found in possession of a 9mm pistol in his hand with three rounds of ammunition,” said Gwala.
She said a search was conducted inside the house.
“An AK47 rifle with 12 rounds of ammunition was found. A police jacket, army jacket, pair of gloves and two 9mm magazines were also seized,” she said.
She said a man and a woman between ages 38 and 45 were arrested and appeared at the Umbumbulu Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday on charges of robbery and the possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
Major General Bheki Langa, KwaZulu-Natal Acting Provincial Commissioner, applauded the police involved in removing the firearms from the hands of criminals.
