Muslims around the world are preparing to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr early next month, a day that marks the end of Ramadaan. This is an occasion to dress in one’s finest and best.

From those who wear the hijab, to fashionistas who will want to look glamorous on the day, one is spoilt for choice when it comes to putting together the perfect outfit.

We asked three of Cape Town’s style influencers to help with some fashion tips and ideas.

Top trends for Hijabis

1 The Cover up: Use a long thin jersey or light coat to cover up. This covers all the bits, but still looks edgy and cool.

2 Let your scarf bits hang: I usually play with my scarf and change the lengths of the two ends to give my outfit more of an accessorised look.

3 The turban: A turban is a great accessory while still keeping the look modern and cool. I change the heights of my turban to create different looks.

4 Turtlenecks: This is an easy way to cover up the arms and neck area especially when doing the turban style or opting for a loosely tied scarf.

5 Layering: When dressing modestly, this is the easiest way to make Western garments hijab-friendly. I like to wear jeans or leggings under dresses, but I choose dresses that have sleeves and turtlenecks so the outfit looks trendy and youthful. I would throw on a loosely twisted scarf so that there is some depth to the look and perhaps a leather or denim jacket depending on the weather and time of day.

MISHAH DESIGNER WEAR

1 Layered Up: Layering is a style that not only keeps you warm but also makes any outfit more elegant. From cozy rib-knit turtlenecks and fluffy shrugs to suede trench coats, these are the items you need in your closet to take your layered look to the next level.

2 Sequins and Embellishments: This Eid sparkle from day to night by choosing embellished or sequinned fabrics in styles of box tops, kaftans or simply add stacked accessories of layered neck-pieces and chunky bangles to give your outfit that extra chic look. When in doubt just add a little glitter.

3 Lace: Lace is a trend that is here to stay. We love lace because it looks romantic, feminine and classic. The best thing about it is that anyone can wear it.

4 Tulle: Beautiful , fully-layered tulle skirts are hot right now. This style comes in midi and maxi lengths, in colours like black, white and mink, and are being styled super glam, edgy or perfectly sex-in-the-city chic. Every girl loves a bit of tulle skirt...

5 Colours: Colour trends include deep ruby, jewel tones of emerald green and darker shades of navy, not forgetting our favourite shades of nude tones in mink and stone colour-ways.

6 Prints: Bright colours, big florals and bold graphics are guaranteed to get you noticed. This trend has so much to offer, starting from creative cut-outs to electric prints, as well as leopard, tiger and zebra prints. The floral prints mixed with other botanical motifs are deemed the most common print type year in and year out.

7 Turbans: Styling a turban the Hijab way results in sophistication meets the purest form of glamour. Add a fluffy trendy hat and you’re all set for chic this Eid.

8 The Strappy Shoe: Close- or open-toed, this style is as versatile as it gets. It can dress up your most simple look and add an appropriate edge to your everyday wear. To welcome the style into your wardrobe, look for a pair in tonal colours or “new neutrals”, like burgundy and animal print. If you’re looking for added warmth on Eid or if you want to take these styles well into winter... pair them with socks or tights.

9 The Circle Skirt: There’s something so fun and flirtatious about a full skirt. The trick to styling it is balance. Since the skirt is full on the bottom, you should wear something cut close to the body; like a knitted polo-neck, jumper or a classic shirt. One thing we love about this trend is that the skirt can be worn in all seasons as it never goes out of style.

10 Bold Lips: Jump on the trend with dark lips. Wearing deep red, plum or even purple shades is flattering and dramatic. So let’s give the eye-shadows a break and stock up on some bold, fun lip colours.
