Durban - If Durban is not on your travel bucket, perhaps you need to edit your list.

From our warm beaches to great weather for most of the year, why would you not consider spending a few days in a city where the fun never sets?

Durban’s best assets were once again centre of attention at this year’s awards ceremony, with the city scooping four coveted awards at the World Travel Awards hosted recently.

The International Convention Centre received honours for being Africa’s leading meetings and conference centre, lifting the trophy for the 17th time.

Durban was also awarded for being Africa’s leading city destination, while the Port of Durban received the trophy for being Africa’s leading cruise port.

Hilton Hotel was named South Africa’s leading business hotel while Hilton Hotels and Resorts was also named Africa’s leading hotel brand and the five-star Oyster Box in Umhlanga collected the trophy for being South Africa’s leading hotel. Villa iZulu at Thanda Safari, north of Hluhluwe, was named Africa’s leading luxury private villa.

MEC for Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs, Sihle Zikalala said more airlines were flying directly into KZN and at the end of the month, British Airways would also start flying directly from Heathrow into King Shaka International Airport.

“Negotiations were also underway with other international airlines and the provincial government was confident that it would soon be announcing that another airline would also land directly into the province,” Zikalala said.

So, there are you have it. Award winning venues, glorious sunshine and great culture. Make Durban a must-see on your #TravelTuesday
