As expected, the AMG version of the all-new CLS series features the company’s latest AMG V8 biturbo engine, in this guise generating an output of up to 410kW and 699Nm and mated to the AMG Speedshift MCT 7-speed gearbox. Fuel economy is up to 33 percent better than on the previous model.

The motor displaces 5461cm3 and features a combination of high-tech components. In addition to spray-guided gasoline direct injection with piezo injectors, it boasts an all-aluminium crank case, four-valve technology with variable camshafts, air-water charge-air cooling, generator management and stop/start system.

Unfortunately the 410kW power output is only attainable when the optional AMG Performance Package is fitted – without it your CLS63 will only be capable of 386kW, in which case the 0-96km/h sprint time rises to 4Different charge pressures for the two power levels.4 seconds, from 4.3.

The key difference between the two performance levels is the maximum charge pressure of the twin turbochargers, which is 14.5 psi in the standard CLS63 AMG and 18.8 psi with the Performance Package.

The combination of AMG Adaptive Suspension with the adaptive damping system and a new front axle arrangement, plus new electro-hydraulic AMG sports steering, aims at delivering supreme handling and dynamics.

From a visual standpoint, the 2012 CLS63 AMG cuts an impressive figure with its athletic stance and distinctive exterior and interior design. The brand new active LED high-performance headlights are available as an option, with LED Daytime Running Lamps fitted as standard.
