Microdots will help beat the criminals

Mark your car with microdots and thieves will leave it alone.

Police, insurers and at least one car-rental company have all given the thumb-up to microdots, a "vehicle DNA" system that covers every part of a vehicle, including the engine, with as many as 10 000 dots, each 1mm in diameter and bearing the vehicle's identification number (VIN).

"Criminals don't want these cars because they can't get rid of all the identifiers," said Derek Menday, director of DataDot. "If you can't get rid of the car, you can't convert it into cash."

The recommended price is R899, including VAT, and there are DataDot centres countrywide. For your nearest centre call +27 (0)44 874-0836, fax 874-0879, email [email protected] or visit their website.
