SsangYong has refreshed its SUV range with a new Rexton that will in April 2008 join the recently revised Kyron and Stavic models.

All three have been progressivly upgraded with a wider choice of models and new specifications.

The single-model, five-plus-two seater Rexton SUV will be available in South Africa with a Mercedes 2.7-litre, common-rail turbodiesel engine capable of 121kW/340Nm and features that include aircon, power-assisted steering, power windows and external mirrors, crash bags, anti-lock brakes with electronic pressure distribution, radio/CD with steering-wheel controls, cruise-control and leather upholstery.

The updated Rexton joins four two-litre, five-seat Kyron SUV's available in SA with a new "clean and economical" two-litre, 310Nm, turbocharged common-rail diesel engine with two or part-time all-wheel drive and a choice of manual or auto transmission and SsangYong sees them as competition for fellow Koreans Kia Sorento, Hyundai Santa Fe and Chevrolet's Captiva.

The Kyron 270 has aircon, anti-lock brakes and radio/CD with steering-wheel satellite controls and a Mercedes-Benz five-speed T-Tronic auto transmission, power door mirrors, crash bags, leather upholstery and cruise control. It also comes with the new third-generation SsangYong 2.7-litre, common-rail turbodiesel. This gives 121kW/340Nm from 2525rpm.

This Kyron sees the Mitsubishi Pajero, Land Rover Discovery and Jeep Cherokee as competition, especially with the SsangYong's "active rollover protection", auto aircon and up to 3.2 metric tons towing ability

SA has two seven-seat, very large, Stavic 270 models, each with the 2.7 turbodiesel engine and rear-wheel drive and a choice of manual or auto transmission.

The standard-spec Stavic comes with anti-lock brakes, remote-controlled keyless entry, speed-sensing locks, auto aircon. The high-spec model adds privacy glass, alloy rims, cruise control, radio/CD with wheel controls, five-speed Mercedes T-Tronic auto box and leather.
