Durban - Two people have been arrested following the riots that took place at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday night after the Nedbank Cup match between Kaizer Chiefs and Free State Stars.

Police have confirmed that two people were arrested for public violence and malicious damage to property.

Captain Nqobile Gwala, police spokesperson said angry fans stormed the field at Moses Mabhida Stadium and started a fire and hurled objects onto the field.

Police were forced to use stun grenades to disperse the unruly crowd. Two suspects aged 27 and 33 were arrested for public violence and malicious damage to property. Police received reports that people were injured during the incident,” Gwala said.

She said the men will appear in the Durban Magistrates Court on Monday.

Reports suggest that the security guard that was assaulted on the field after the match had died but she said they cannot confirm the death of the security guard at this stage.
