Beatle wrote song on the loo
Cologne - Former Beatle Paul McCartney put the finishing touches to the hit tune Yesterday while sitting on the toilet, according to a former collaborator.
Fans have long known that McCartney woke up one morning in 1964 in his girlfriend's London flat humming the tune.
Fellow musician Tony Sheridan said in his memoirs released on Friday that McCartney told him that people did not realise that he wrote Yesterday while in the loo.
Sheridan, 72, who recorded with the Fab Four in their early days, said that McCartney confided to him the humble origins of the famous tune, originally titled Scrambled Eggs.
Sheridan met the Beatles in Germany in 1961, and the group recorded several tracks as Tony Sheridan & The Beat Brothers including the single My Bonnie that year.
Their professional collaboration was brief, as Sheridan remained in Germany when the others returned to Britain, but the musicians stayed in touch over the years, Sheridan said.
His audiobook The Beatles - The Audiostory was released Friday as a download by Luebbe Audio. - Sapa-dpa
