DURBAN - THE legal team of flamboyant businessman Hamilton Ndlovu allegedly dumped him for failing to pay legal fees. Ndlovu is said to owe his lawyers more than half a million rand in legal fees.

Ndlovu allegedly benefited R172 million from lucrative personal protective equipment contracts he received from the National Health Laboratory Services.

Ndlovu made headlines and shot to fame in May last year after he posted a video showing off his fleet of luxury vehicles. These include three Porches, a Jeep, and Lamborghini. The cars are reportedly worth more than R11m.

This triggered an investigation from the South African Revenue Service, Special investigating Unit and National Health Laboratory Services. They sought a provisional preservation order from the North Gauteng High Court.

Police seized three of his luxury cars after conducting a search-and-seizure operation at Ndlovu’s residence in September last year.

A source with knowledge told the Daily News on Sunday that Ndlovu, the chief executive of Hamilton Holdings, was being isolated from affluent affiliates and his problems were mounting.

“His legal counsel will be withdrawing due to non-payment. They only received the first payment when they took the case last year. Hamilton paid R200 000 to his legal team. The outstanding balance he owes them for the work done is more than half a million rand.

“Ndlovu’s assets are all frozen. These include his houses and cars. They are attached. Unfortunately, he is unable to pay off certain debts,” the source said.

The source claimed Ndlovu was protecting certain prominent politicians who assisted him to win tenders.

“He is willing to take a fall for everything. Everybody turned their back on him. Some people helped pull the strings in the background and shared the spoils with these guys. For him to get these tenders, he had to work with powerful people.”
