Durban - Various social upliftment groups together with the police will have a drug awareness march followed by an empowerment program through Point area on Saturday.

The Point area has earned a seedy reputation where drug dealing and drug manufacturing is rife in the network of buildings on Mahatma Gandhi (Point) Road.

The march is expected to begin at 8:30am from Kearsney Road at the bottom end of Pixley KaSeme (West) Street.

Shaun Barrett, Point Community Policing Forum (CPF) sector 1 chairperson, said after the march a drug empowerment awareness programme will take place at Addington Primary School Hall at 10:30 am.  Barrett said the march is open to the public.

One of the slogans for the march is, Drugs kill the pain and the joy, the hope, the body, the brain and finally the soul.

The march is being held in conjunction with Police police station, North Beach action group,  Addington Primary School and drug rehabilitation organisation Re-Focus and Upliftment Foundation (Rauf).
