A man in a car stopped by police on Thursday in Malvern, Durban, was allegedly carrying a loaded gun hidden in a loaf of bread.
Police spokesman, Captain Thulani Zwane, said the man was arrested and a case of possessing an unlicensed firearm was opened at the Malvern police station.
Another man in the car was also arrested for carrying a concealed weapon.
Police allegedly found a knife concealed in his belt.
The men were expected to appear on Friday in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court.
They were arrested on Main Road in Malvern. The men and a friend, travelling in a BMW, were pulled over by the police.
A police source said the three men were searched thoroughly for any illegal items.
One of the men was holding a packet with a loaf of white bread. When police checked it, they found it strange that the bread was heavy.
A policeman then inspected the loaf and found a pistol inside.
